Place your trust in the global market leader for rail joining
Our patented Thermit® welding processes weld nearly all types of track – with train operations continuing almost as usual. As well as consumables and equipment for our welding process, our insulated rail joints are used successfully around the world for all common rail profiles.
Excellent – our range of rail services:
We provide you with reliable and perfectly coordinated rail services for the maintenance and repair of railways, and, ultimately, a modern railway network. In addition to welding and grinding work and the weld tempering of new rails, the services also include measuring services and ballast stabilization. Our extensive range of services, therefore, makes a considerable contribution towards improving travel comfort, reducing lifecycle costs, and secure the performance of your railway network.
Thermit® Welding Processes incl. Consumables
With the Thermit® welding processes nearly all rails of various profiles and grades worldwide can be continuously welded. Thermit® consists of aluminum granulate and iron oxide which after igniting exhibits a strong exothermal reaction. The extreme reaction heat is able to create liquid steel up to 3000 °C without an auxiliary energy source and therefore to weld the ends of rails. Using this process we guarantee you the safe joining of rails in heavy haul and high-speed networks while at the same time increasing travel comfort and the lifetime of the rails.
As an end-to-end supplier of aluminothermic welding we develop, manufacture, and supply all components required for our Thermit® welding processes. Among the main components are:
- Welding compound (Thermit® portions)
- Refractory molds
- Crucibles
- Tools and machines used to carry out the work
Thermit® Welding
The Thermit® welding of the Goldschmidt Group ensures that all over the world high speed, heavy haul, trams, and underground railways run quietly and safely in an environmentally manner on continuously welded track. Thermit® weldings are carried out by our trained and experienced welding personnel.
Arc Welding
Our experienced welding specialists carry out arc welding with the submerged arc welding technique and the manual metal electric arc method. This low-cost alternative is particularly attractive for the light rail networks of municipal public transport systems. In mainline networks, this technique is used where space is too limited for other welding processes, e.g. near to frogs.
Arc welding can be used almost anywhere and enables the welding of all rail profiles and transitions to other profiles.
Insulated Rail Joins incl. all Consumables
Insulated rail joints are required to determine the position of the train for the purpose of safe signal control. We produce and market various types of insulated joints with different properties according to the type of force application, installation, and manufacture. Their common advantages are: they offer the highest safety, reliability, and durability – in all climates. All our insulated joints are manufactured from steel or polymer composites.

SMARTWELD RECORD

Handle for efficient documentation of the preheating process.
The SMARTWELD RECORD records and documents the preheating parameters for THERMIT® welding via the GOLDSCHMIDT DIGITAL APP. The welder is given the specific individual steps for the THERMIT® welding in a user-friendly way and without errors. This ensures both optimum use of welding materials and that welding is performed to standard. Process parameters can be saved centrally using the GOLDSCHMIDT DIGITAL APP. The data is uploaded directly to our database solution DARI® so that data can be analyzed and accessed globally.
- Benefits:
Efficient quality control and documentation of construction and maintenance measures - Improved quality, decrease in welding errors
- Use independently of weather
- Simple, fast training, the product is easy to introduce
- Complete evaluation of THERMIT® welding
SMARTWELD JET

Automated preheating of the THERMIT® weld.
By automating the preheating and working without compressed oxygen, the propane-air torch SMARTWELD JET optimizes your work process. Due to the avoidance of execution errors and the documentation produced on-site by means of the GOLDSCHMIDT DIGITAL APP, the economic efficiency of your welding activities increases. The data is uploaded directly to our database solution DARI® so that data can be analyzed and accessed globally. SMARTWELD JET ensures safe and reproducible execution of the preheating process – guaranteeing high weld quality.
